House 13 Title: The house of Death

Text in the roof:
There are ancient societies in which skulls symbolize the afterlife. It is a promise that our souls are immortal. The human image is forever captured in this art form. Skulls are arguably one of the oldest fashion icons. Piercings, make-up, tattoos, clothing, jewelry and accessories, they can be found everywhere. If you look at this house you may see the colorful skulls first. Despite its grim appearance, the symbol is very popular.

Skulls have been glorified for years. In the past, skulls meant something completely different to certain tribes. They kept skulls as trophies of their conquests and other tribes made necklaces, arm baths or even piercings from them. Humans carried human bones, either from opponents they had defeated in battle or from relatives who had died. They tied bones together to hang around their necks or wrists, or drilled holes in their skin through which piercings were inserted.

In Mexico people celebrate the day of the dead, it is “Día de Muertos” For many Mexicans, a special celebration in which deceased loved ones are remembered. Their lives are celebrated! People come together, there is good food, cheerful music and the houses and streets are colorfully decorated. Shops sell sweets and toys in the form of macabre death symbols and representations of death La Muerta.

Kirstal skulls are a representation of life rather than death. The skulls in this house here are purposely combined with cheerful colors, because let's look alive in color at something that ultimately the same fate awaits everyone.
